Our family
Hello, I’m Jade. Together with my husband James, we are parents to three wonderful daughters – Felicity aged 5, Phoebe 3 and Philippa 1. We live in a busy, happy home filled with laughter, imagination, and more swimming bags than I ever thought
possible.
From very early on, water has been part of our family rhythm. All three of our girls began their swimming journeys as babies with Little Swim Club, and it has become one of the most consistent and meaningful activities we do together as a family. This
is our story.
Our girls’ journey with Little Swim Club
Felicity started swimming when she was just a baby. Phoebe followed shortly after, and Philippa has recently begun her own journey in the pool at only a few months old. Watching each of them grow in confidence has been one of the most rewarding
experiences of parenthood.
When we first decided to start baby swimming, it wasn’t simply about an activity to fill the week. It was about equipping our girls with a life skill. Water safety is non-negotiable for us. We wanted them to feel calm, capable, and confident around water from
the very beginning.
Felicity took to swimming beautifully. Even as a toddler, she demonstrated strong body awareness and coordination. The structured yet playful approach at Little Swim Club supported her gross motor development, balance, and spatial awareness.
Today, at five, she swims independently with confidence, controls her breathing well, and understands key safety techniques.
Phoebe’s journey has been equally special. She has always been spirited and energetic, and swimming gave her a constructive outlet for that energy. We noticed clear progress in her motor skills, stronger core control, improved coordination, and increased
stamina. Her confidence in the water translated into confidence outside of it too.
Philippa, our youngest, is still at the beginning of her journey. Watching her kick, splash, and respond instinctively to the water
reminds us how powerful early exposure can be. Even at one year old, you can see her developing balance, strength and familiarity with water movements that will serve her for years to come.
Favourite moments and milestones
Each stage has brought different highlights.
With Felicity, I remember the pride of seeing her float independently for the first time, then progressing to short swims without assistance. That moment when she realised, “I can do this myself,” was unforgettable.
Phoebe has always loved the action elements of lessons: chasing toys, kicking races, and practicing safe entries. The structured repetition helped refine her technique while keeping everything joyful and engaging.
Now with Philippa, it’s about foundations. Gentle submersions, supported floats, and simple movements that build neurological pathways and coordination. At Little Swim Club, the progression feels thoughtful and intentional. It isn’t rushed; it’s
developmental.
The emphasis on water safety techniques, safe entries, and returning to the wall has been particularly valuable. It’s not just about swimming strokes, it’s about awareness, reaction, and control.
Progress beyond the pool
One of the most surprising benefits has been how swimming has supported overall development.
We have seen improvements in:
Gross motor skills: stronger legs, better balance, improved coordination
Core strength and posture
Breath control and regulation
Confidence in new environments
Listening and responding to instruction
Swimming engages the whole body and brain. It has supported their physical development, but also their resilience and
independence.
A family aesthetic
Swimming has become part of who we are. Weekend mornings, matching swim bags, warm towels ready in the car it’s woven
into our family routine.
There is something incredibly special about watching your children grow confident in an environment that could otherwise feel intimidating. The calm reassurance of instructors, the structured progression, and the consistency of lessons have all contributed to a positive experience for our girls.
Now, seeing Felicity encourage Phoebe, and Phoebe gently guide Philippa, feels like a full circle moment. The older sisters modelling confidence for the youngest is something I cherish deeply.
A skill for life
If we were to offer advice to parents considering baby swimming, it would simply be this: start early and commit to the journey.
There are many activities available for young children, but very few offer the combination of:
Life-saving skills
Physical development
Confidence building
Family bonding
Swimming is not just a lesson; it is a foundation.
We are incredibly grateful that all three of our daughters have had the opportunity to grow with Little Swim Club. Watching them become strong, capable, and confident in the water has been one of the greatest privileges of parenthood.
And the journey is still only just beginning.
