Swim England Stage 4 - Supported by Shark 1, 2 and 3

At this stage we continue to build on all four strokes by breaking down the technical elements paying particular attention to the kicking action.  Children will also develop skills in sculling and endurance.

This level, as with all our swim levels, is set by ability rather than by age.   To join this stage children should be able to comfortably swim 10 metres on their front and back with faces in the water and have a basic knowledge of competitive strokes.

On completion of this stage your child will be able to:-

  1. Perform a sequence of changing shapes (minimum 3) whilst floating on the surface and demonstrate an understanding of floating

  2. Push and glide from the wall towards the pool floor.  Kick 10m backstroke

  3. Kick 10 front crawl

  4. Kick 10m butterfly on the front or back

  5. Kick 10m breaststroke on the front

  6. Perform a head first sculling action for 5m in a flat position on the back

  7. Travel on back and log roll in one continuous movement onto front

  8. Travel on front and log roll in one continuous movement onto back

  9. Push and glide and swim 10m.  Choice of stroke is optional

Swim England stages can be difficult to achieve termly so we ensure children do not get dis-hearted by awarding them with our own Little Swim Club certificates free of charge at the end of each term and these are a very important part of our achievements process.
