Clownfish - Beginner / Water Confidence Classes
For Beginners from 4 years on
Every age is a good age to learn to swim and we welcome children of all ages to start learning at our warm pools.
Clownfish is the foundation class of our Beginners Programme and as such, the primary aims in this class are improving water confidence, being at ease in the water, the development of basic safety awareness as well as movement skills such as floating, kicking and paddling. Fun games and activities make the lessons enjoyable and build each child’s confidence to attempt new skills.
The key outcomes for our children working with us at this level include safe entries and exits, blowing bubbles, basic floating and travel in the water with buoyancy aids as well as lots of encouragement to put faces into water.
Submersion does not come easily to all and we have many strategies to try and encourage your little ones to be at ease with their faces in the water. At all times your child will always be given the individual support that they need to overcome any fears that this may bring them.
Because your child is an individual we are sensitive to their needs and ability and will adapt our teaching
accordingly. It is important that your child’s confidence remains high throughout this crucial stage, while
challenging them to develop new skills.
Classes have a maximum of 6 with a teacher/assistant to pupil ratio of 1 to 3.
Certificate awards are given at the end of each full term (Easter/Summer/Christmas).
These are provided by The Little Swim Club to all children free of charge and are a
very important part of our achievements process.
The equivalent level when working in the Clownfish classes are Swim England
– Stage 1 / STA - Octopus. In addition to our own assessments and in-house
certificates, if you also wish to know your child's Swim England grading we will
be happy to provide this information. The Swim England nationally recognised
badge and certificate can be purchased for £5.00 per set.
Lessons are half an hour long @£13.75 per class payable by the half-term. As we
operate to the Hampshire schools calendar for our term dates, our lengths of
terms vary throughout the year. Please see our Term Dates section for each
